Since last week's surprise attack by Hamas deep into Israel, one that left over one thousand Israeli civilians (27 Americans) and soldiers dead, war in the region has raged with a fury perhaps not seen since 2018 in the region.
A Palestinian man in Gaza photographed moving mattresses this past week quite likely for two purposes: 1. An uneasy rest, 2. To shield from deadly shrapnel…
While traditional media outlets have done a remarkable job in bringing the latest facts and figures to our devices in real time, I cannot help but notice that social media chatter on this crucial subject has been somewhat at a minimum this week on my timelines.
Perhaps this relative reticence to speak out could range from a sincere desire by some to use social media as an escape from the rigors of daily living, or, some may lack concern about any war that doesn't directly impact their daily lives? Still others may be confused as to what's at stake; why Hamas launched an offensive attack deep into Israel, why Hezbollah joined with a separate attack as well, and why Israel, in response, has warned millions of Palestinians to leave Gaza in the run up to a ground invasion by its powerful military.
I don't know…
But what I do know is that thousands of Israelis and Palestinians are already dead, that many more thousands of Palestinians will die in the days ahead due to overwhelming force from Israel's military, and a refugee crisis is at hand that finds millions of displaced Palestinians facing the prospects of having few places to go in the region—and nowhere to run to in the United States.
As such, I am re-posting an article that I wrote back in 2018 that traces the roots of nearly eight decades of war and rumors of war in the nation formerly known as Palestine, one that since 1948, has been modern Israel.
The issues in that region are complex, and I have always sensed that part of the complexity is that far too many citizens of the world do not fully understand why so many Palestinians choose to attack from time to time—and why Israel fights back with overwhelming force time and again.

This fraction is fully accounted for in the Bible.
Yes, I need to reread your article. The entire ordeal with the Gaza Strip and the battle between Israelis and Palestinians is complex, intriguing, baffling, sad, and everlasting. My opinion is that they will never stop fighting. I feel that they are hidden truths in this land and one side does not want the real rightful inhabitants to know what their birthright is and the story of this land. I mean it is Northeast Africa, my bad, the Middle East.
