As many of you may recall, last month, longtime Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Attorney General in his second administration.
Rep. Gaetz and President-elect Trump posing for a selfie…
Sickeningly, Trump disregarded the fact that Gaetz had been under criminal investigation for rape and sex trafficking for several years—including allegations that he had statutorily raped at least one underage girl and maintained a suspect relationship with one underage boy! Playing his part as Trump’s chief sycophant, Gaetz quickly resigned his congressional seat and began making the rounds on Capitol Hill in hopes of rallying Republican senators behind his AG candidacy, this despite both the federal criminal investigation—and a separate Congressional investigation into his criminal misconduct—still being wide open.
Fortunately, at least for the sake of being a nation of laws, there were enough Republican Senators willing to say “no” that Gaetz chose to bow out of contention for the Cabinet post and instead, will soon host a MAGA cheerleading podcast on the One America “News” network.
As you may also recall, initially, the House Ethics Report was not to be released as Gaetz’s resignation made any further disciplinary proceedings within that chamber moot. Thus, my surprise yesterday afternoon to learn that the Report was to be released; I read the same with the level of disgust that I would expect from any rational adult who realizes how deplorable it would have been to have a child molester sitting as the Attorney General of the United States! While the Report is a rather quick read, for those of you who are in the middle of your Holiday activities and don't have the time to Google and read the same, please note the following “low” lights of a low-life political figure who should be sitting in a Florida or federal prison cell this morning eating cold eggs and grits for Christmas Eve breakfast:
“…In sum, the (Ethics) Committee found substantial evidence of the following:
*From at least 2017 to 2020, Representative Gaetz regularly paid women for engaging in sexual activity with him.
*In 2017, Representative Gaetz engaged in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl. (Hobbservation: The way this prong was written demands correction in that under Florida law, any man over 24 years of age cannot lawfully have sex with a 17-year-old girl. Meaning, they did not “have sex,” rather, Gaetz STATUTORILY RAPED a 17-year-old girl).
*During the period 2017 to 2019, Representative Gaetz used or possessed illegal drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, on multiple occasions.
*Representative Gaetz accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging in connection with a 2018 trip to the Bahamas, in excess of permissible amounts.
*In 2018, Representative Gaetz arranged for his Chief of Staff to assist a woman with whom he engaged in sexual activity in obtaining a passport, falsely indicating to the U.S. Department of State that she was a constituent.
*Representative Gaetz knowingly and willfully sought to impede and obstruct the Committee's investigation of his conduct.
*Representative Gaetz has acted in a manner that reflects discreditably upon the House.
*Based on the above, the Committee concluded there was substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules, state and federal laws, and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, acceptance of impermissible gifts, the provision of special favors and privileges, and obstruction of Congress.
Folks, those were the House Committee findings—meaning concrete evidence—not mere allegations!
According to multiple sources, one of the worst kept secrets in Washington and Tallahassee was Matt Gaetz’s pedophiliac predilections…
I cannot begin to offer a compelling legal explanation to any of you as to why Matt Gaetz was not arrested for these criminal acts a long time ago. Trust, I have seen far less egregious allegations of sexual misconduct and narcotics go from investigation to trial to sentencing in half of the time that has been spent kicking the can down the road on “Gaetz Rape-gate.”
But as I often write, the sad reality is that Gaetz has the right connections and complexion for protection from being penalized for his criminal behavior; while there is nothing that any of us can do to hold him accountable in a court of law, we can (and must) hold him in contempt in the court of public opinion—all the while leaving a record for future generations to know that not everyone turned a blind eye to the fact that a soon to be president, one who was found civilly liable for sexual misconduct himself, had no qualms with nominating a drug abusing, sex trafficking rapist to serve as the nation's top enforcer of laws!
Lest we forget—and may we forever remind our kin, friends, and colleagues who are drawn to the MAGA Man with a feverish cult like fervor that the rule of law still MUST matter in these United States!
Excellent article. The truth must be told. What a creep! Getz is an embarrassing example of what Florida sends to Washington as representation.
Matt Gaetz is trump's kind of folks. Birds of a feather and all that!
