Donald J. Trump, the first U.S. President to be twice impeached and the first former president to be indicted for crimes in federal court, now adds to his ignominious list the distinction of being the only U.S. President deemed liable for sexually abuse and defamation due to physical attacks he committed upon journalist E. Jean Carroll several decades ago—and verbal attacks he continues up to this very hour!
Earlier this afternoon, a Manhattan jury consisting of six men and three women found Mr. Trump, 76, liable of sexual abuse and defamation, and awarded Ms. Carroll, 79, $5 million dollars in damages.
While Trump defiantly refused to attend the trial, he did submit to a videotaped deposition in which he confused pictures of a then 50-year old Carroll with his then 50-something year old second wife, Marla Maples. The importance of that error is that at core of his asinine defense in this case is that Carroll “was not his physical type,” which, clearly she once was since he mistook her during the period of the sexual abuse with his former wife during that same period!
Moments after being held liable for sexual abuse and defamation, Trump took to social media and wrote:
“I have absolutely no idea who this woman is. This verdict is a disgrace — a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time!” Donald Trump, May 9, 2023
Trump's statement echoes a familiar theme whenever he is confronted with his lies or criminal misdeeds, which is to deny, deflect, and denigrate those telling the truth.
While typical, what's worse is that his millions of loyal followers will almost assuredly:
Believe Trump is THE victim instead of finding a more credible conservative candidate;
Send even more of their limited dollars to pay a supposed billionaire's legal fees and fund his presidential campaign;
Vote for Trump during the 2024 Republican Primary and General Election.
