Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated's 113th Founders' Day

113 years ago today, 10 Black men founded Kappa Alpha Nu on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington—only 45 years after the end of chattel slavery in America.

While rigid Jim Crow laws were designed to limit their aspirations, Kappa’s Founders forged a bond that united them in the cause of achieving far beyond the imaginations of their bigoted detractors, some of whom referred to the original letters of "Kappa Alpha Nu" by the racist slur "Kappa Alpha N*ggers"—thus, the reincorporation as "Kappa Alpha Psi"—the "Frat so nice we named it twice!"

Thus, as I have for 28 years and counting, I extend a Happy Founders' Day to all of my Fraternity Brothers worldwide. I also pray for special blessings to all of the Nupes who have passed onto those “Golden Shores,” including my late father, Charles, and my uncle, James “Rudy” Cambridge!
