Over the past month, I have done my small part to question the Florida A&M University presidential selection process that led to unqualified Attorney Marva Johnson being selected as the 13th President late last week. I have also done my level best to raise awareness about Florida politicos in ages past who created a tortured relationship with the state's sole public HBCU ever since its founding in 1887, while also raising awareness about Florida politicos in the present age who are taking an active interest in dismantling public education, Black history, as well as Black civil and voting rights—areas in which FAMU and FAMU alumni have led the way in the Sunshine State since the Civil Rights Movement began over 70 years ago!
In the spirit of several FAMU alumni groups, including the Keepers of the Flame and Rattlers United, that are organizing peaceful resistance to what many have described as a potential MAGA coup, I took a few moments on my birthday (May 20th) to interview with two highly respected veteran reporters, Trimmel Gomes of Public News Service and Margie Menzel of National Public Radio (NPR), to add further perspective to events on “The Highest of Seven Hills in Tallahassee”—events that could greatly impact how public HBCU’s across the MAGA South are treated in the months and years ahead!
