This week, many Christians around the world will commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ and as a Christian, I look forward to spending time with my kin and friends this holiday season. To that end, with the arrival of the winter solstice and a chill finally in the air here in Tallahassee, I have decided to take a few days off to rest, reflect, and prepare for the new year.
While the past two years have been extremely difficult for all of us due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, and fraught with vicissitudes for Ol' Hobbs ranging from both personal and professional highs and lows—including the deaths of several family members and friends—I realize that simply waking up each day is a gift and, for that, I am grateful!
I would be remiss if I did not note that when I look back on this past year of covering the critical news and social events in real time, I am so very grateful for each subscriber to the Hobbservation Point; your financial investment in this Blog is appreciated beyond words, and I look forward to using my trenchant pen for your reading and analytical pleasure in the new year!
2022 will be a milestone year; God willing, in May I will turn 50 years old and in November, I will celebrate 40 years as a Baptized member of the Faith. In the collage below are my Hobbs lineage Great Grandfather David, my Grandfather Robert, and my father Charles Sr.; none of these great men lived past the age of 59, with Grandpa Robert passing shortly after his 50th birthday. Thus, my prayer that I can be more consistent in my physical exercises AND seeking peace of mind in the decade(s) ahead that prayerfully will allow me to enjoy my 50s and reach my 60s!
So, as I take a few days off to relax and meditate, do know that I wish each of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, or simply blissful vibes!
Now, should some Earth shattering event occur between now and January 1st, I promise that I will blog about it in real time; otherwise, be sure to spread love, remain hopeful, and be responsible in these Delta and Omicron 'Rona streets! Til then, I leave you with a bit of Scripture from the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke that provides the reason for the season:
"In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.' Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.'"
Amen!
Merry Christmas’Ol Hobbs! May your time of rest and reflection yield blessings and new inspiration! I look forward to reading in 2022!
I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope your time offline is peaceful and joyful. Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful writing and I look forward to reading more.
