To say that this has been a whirlwind week in presidential politics is an understatement when considering that on Sunday morning, President Joe Biden awoke as the 2024 Democratic nominee and by day’s end, abdicated his spot and anointed Vice President Kamala Harris as his heir apparent!
Within 48 hours of that decision, not only had potential challengers like Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, California Governor Gavin Newsome, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly declined to run, but Democratic Party heavy hitters like former President and Secretary of State Bill and Hillary Clinton, Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) had thrown their considerable weight behind the nascent Harris for President ‘24 campaign!
As millions of grassroots supporters donated well in excess of $100 million dollars while volunteering to help with get out the vote efforts, and big money donors who had previously threatened to withhold funds unless Mr. Biden stepped down subsequently reversing field and turning the money faucets back on, there was one noticeable absence from the “Kamala Coronation” events this week—former President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama!
While speculation ran rampant and amok (especially on Fox News) as to “why” the Obamas were relatively silent, all allegations became moot around 5:10 a.m. today when the official Obama endorsement video was released by the Harris campaign!
The video depicts a warm conference call, with the first Black First Lady saying, “I can’t have this phone call without saying to my girl Kamala: I am proud of you…This is going to be historic.”

Then, former President Barack Obama chimes in, saying: “We called to say Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office.”
Fun Fact: Kamala Harris and Barack Obama are old friends and in 2007, then District Attorney Kamala Harris became one of the first major Democratic politicians to endorse then Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton; the circle is now complete as Obama returns the favor!
Harris, flashing her trademark optimistic smile—the one that vexes the inner demons in her MAGA opponents who prefer to frown and fuss about what's wrong in America—replied: “Oh my goodness. Michelle, Barack, this means so much to me, I am looking forward to doing this with the two of you, Doug and I both. And getting out there, being on the road.”
Harris added, “But most of all, I just wanna tell you that the words you have spoken and the friendship that you have given over all these years mean more than I can express. So thank you both! It means so much. And, and we’re gonna have some fun with this too, aren’t we?”
With fewer than three weeks remaining before the Democratic National Convention, and fewer than four months remaining before Election Day, the stage is now set for Kamala Harris to run proudly on the Biden administration's record of funding the rebuilding of America's aging highways, bridges, and railways; wiping away student loan debt; ending the nearly 20 year war in Afghanistan; and appointing a well qualified and diverse slate of judges to the federal courts, which includes Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson, the first Black woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court!
Lest we forget the figurative and literal messes that the Biden-Harris administration inherited just days after the January 6th MAGA Riots in Washington, D.C.
The stage is also set for Harris to draw distinctions from her current boss, President Joe Biden, which actually began yesterday when after a joint meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Harris opined that while Israel has a right to defend itself against Hamas, that it also has a responsibility to end the war and stopping the carnage that's already taken tens of thousands of Palestinian lives in Gaza.

While VP Harris makes the case in the court of public opinion, she will now have the Obamas—both still extremely popular among Democrats and strong fundraisers and potential campaign surrogates—joining the team, one that hopes to defeat Donald Trump and the MAGA revival decisively this Fall!
Stay tuned…
Excited as this rolls out. My personal opinion is that the timing on the endorsement was a bit strategic. If everyone rushed to endorse her right away, it would great, but there would also be a drop off. By having the endorsements space out keeps the momentum building.

Whew - about time they did! I actually thought about their lack of endorsements as I began getting ready for today and told myself to search their socials and websites asap. As always Chuck, you are right on time👏🏽✊🏽
