“There is no pain so great as the memory of joy in present grief.” Aeschylus, celebrated Greek Tragedian
Two days and a wake up from now, the United States of America should have a relatively good idea about whether her next President will be Kamala Harris, the current vice president and Democratic Party standard bearer, or Donald Trump, the former president who seeks to follow in Grover Cleveland's footsteps by serving non-consecutive terms in the Oval Office!
Two weeks ago, I predicted a Harris victory—and I stand firm in my conviction that such will come to pass as I prepare to exclaim what my late grandmothers, Arilla Hobbs and Helen Williams, could only have dreamed of saying while living through America’s Jim Crow nightmare: Madame President Kamala Harris!
Yes, I know that the major media will continue to fill the airwaves and their sites with polls after polls suggesting that the race is a "statistical dead heat" nationwide, but something deep down in my gut tells me that this race isn't going to be as close as the experts are predicting and that Harris will notch the win in convincing fashion!
And while a Harris victory on Tuesday doesn't mean that the fight is over—the Trump team will surely file frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit challenging the results just like it did in 2020—as I sit here on this Sunday morning and prepare to take my "soul to the polls" and vote later today, I must lament my frustration at the fact that far too many voters seem to have a VERY short memory about why Trump was soundly defeated the last time. And I don't just mean the MAGA cultists who would follow their leader into the deepest rungs of hell, I mean Independents and even some Democrats who seem to have forgotten how horrifically awful Trump's response to the Covid pandemic was when it hit in 2020—and how the ensuing inflation that has raised the prices of EVERYTHING was a direct result of greedy corporations taking advantage of that plague to fill their coffers!
And lest we forget that in the time since, there has been little that a divided Congress or even the Biden administration could do to force prices back down, prices that Trump, the so-called billionaire, sees no fault in because he, too, is among the corporate elite!
I also must lament my frustration at voters who seem indifferent to the divisiveness that was the hallmark of Trump's term in office, a divisiveness that will become exponentially worse if he gets the keys to the Oval Office handed back to him this week; verily, few things irk me more than to hear Trump standing at a lectern insulting people, places, and cultural events—or to read his zany, discursive, and oft evil thoughts on social media!
And lest we forget that when Trump lost the election fair and square in 2020, he did everything within the law—and outside the bounds of the law—to keep his tiny handed grip on the controls of presidential power! Yes, he was a danger then, and is even more of a danger to democracy and freedom now—and my sincerest hope is that the election results this Tuesday night will be definitive enough to all but render Trump to the middle and back pages of current event periodicals for the remainder of his days on Earth!
Brace yourselves for repeat violent reactions from Trump's minions over the next two months should Kamala Harris win this week…
Thus, as I am soon off to vote in yet another historic election, one that could find this nation led by a woman of Black/Indian heritage, I do so amid a lingering frustration that someone of her talent, intellectual acuity, and positive perspectives as to what this nation could become, has had to run against a vile representation of what this country ALWAYS has been with respect to discriminating against people based on their race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender. But as I was taught as a child, I will take my frustrations out by doing something positive and in this instance, that will be casting a ballot for Kamala Harris for President!
Perspective…
Stay tuned for my post election analysis right here in the Hobbservation Point later this week!
We will do this!!! Thanks Chuck Hobbs for your intellect and support! ❤️
While in church, my pastor asked all Christians to pray for every candidate - but pray extra hard for Kamala.
I’ll be reading Psalm 37 and fasting until November 5th 11:59 pm…
