Why is Clarence Thomas such a hater?
Such was the theme of a speech given by U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries on the House Floor this week about conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)
Jeffries, the New York Congressman who is in line to become the next Speaker of the House (or Democratic minority leader depending upon election outcomes), was replying to remarks that Thomas made in the wake of leaks that the U.S. Supreme Court is set to reverse Roe vs. Wade this summer.
At a symposium convened by judges and lawyers in Atlanta last week, Thomas said: "We are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like…We use stare decisis as a mantra when we don’t want to think.”
Yeah, right…
For those unaware, "Stare Decisis" is a fancy Latin term that is defined by Black's Law Dictionary as courts “following earlier judicial decisions when the same points arise again in litigation." As every single lawyer and judge in America knows what this term means, and how conservative lawyers/judges often use stare decisis as their reasoning for not being "activists” that change "well settled laws," the fact that Justice Thomas threw that out there—while basically telling abortion rights supporters to "get over it"—is all the more insulting!
Justice Clarence Thomas
Justice Thomas's arrogance is why I support Rep. Jeffries's roast, where he continued: "Let me ask this question of brother Thomas, why are you such a hater? Hate on civil rights. Hate on women’s rights. Hate on reproductive rights. Hate on voting rights. Hate on marital rights. Hate on equal protection under the law. Hate on liberty and justice for all. Hate on free and fair elections. Why are you such a hater?”
Clarence Thomas grinning broadly during his initial meeting with Bush (41) in 1991.
Rep. Jeffries went on to cut straight to the bone when he reminded Thomas that his own wife, Attorney Virginia Thomas, didn't "get over it" when then President Donald Trump was soundly defeated by Joe Biden in 2020! Over the past several months, we have learned that there's a mountain of e-mail and text message evidence that proves that Mrs. Thomas was neck deep in the post-election strategy to prevent the peaceful transfer of power to President Biden—and that she provided some level of support for the January 6th MAGA rioters that stormed the Capitol and left death and destruction in their wake!
Justice Thomas, grinning it up with his wife (and Sen. Mitch McConnell R-Ky) at a reception. The last laugh for both may come during the Congressional probe into Mrs. Thomas’s role in the January 6th MAGA Riots—and Justice Thomas’s refusal to recuse himself from considering those matters.
So yes, inquiring minds really want to hear some answers to your questions, Rep. Jeffries, but the usually mute Thomas will give no real answers because, sadly, he sold his soul (and his status as a Brother) to the proverbial devil a very long time ago.
You see, Justice Thomas just loves to claim that Black people dislike him because he is a conservative, but the real reason that he is disliked is because his opinions on racial injustices, racial redress against discrimination, racial health care disparities, and his rulings on crime and punishment show that he clearly despises his own racial kinsmen.
Seriously, Justice Thomas knows that if Black people and their white allies had just shrugged their shoulders and “got over it” by accepting Plessy vs. Ferguson, the horrors of second class citizenship would quite likely still be entrenched in America—and that he would not be a grinning member of the Supreme Court!
Trust me when I tell you all that “Brother” Thomas "gets" these points; if you ever get the chance to read his autobiography, My Grandfather's Son, as I did many years ago, you will understand that Thomas, even now in his early 70's, despises his dark skin, his thick lips, and his thick Gullah or "Geechie" dialect that he was teased about as a child. Those inner demons haunt a man who deep down inside, wishes that he did not look or sound like what he is—a Black man born and raised in the Deep South during the Jim Crow era!
For the hard to convince souls who have bought into Thomas's "they hate me because I’m a conservative” lie, do know that Black people may have disagreed with many of the late Colin Powell's conservative political stances during his tenure as Secretary of State under former Republican President George W. Bush, but when Powell died, he was largely mourned by many Blacks in America because he NEVER forgot the sting of racism in the past—and he spoke out often about racism and other forms of bigotry in the modern era!
My own Great-Grandfather, Charlie Williams, used to take issue with Black boys and men who “grinned too much.” Here's Mr. Thomas again, grinning, with then Sen. Joe Biden circa 1991.
Justice Thomas is no Colin Powell, and his self hatred makes him the very hater that Rep. Jeffries derided this week.
Thomas’s self hatred, I remind, is why he will be a footnote in the annals of history as a Black man who hated racial quotas and affirmative action, while he knew that he ONLY got into Yale Law School because of affirmative action (not my words, his words in his book)—and he ONLY was nominated for the Supreme Court by former President George H.W. Bush because he was a Black Republican who met the most minimal qualifications for the office back in '91.
Lest we forget...

Loved every word of Rep. Jefferies speech. We need more of that. Call them all out. Tired of tip-toeing around them due to a ridiculous sense of decorum.
On point as always...yep ole skinnin' and grinn' black ass.
