My work is never done to not be prejudiced against all christians because of the ignorance of some. And they only call themselves christians, they are not so.
amen, brother. Well done. Powerful piece. I also spent my time reading the bible stories over and over again and may have snuck some comic books in now and then. Looking back, the message kept, but not the ritual, and as Jesus said, the ritual is where many find peace, but they miss the true meaning.
This Easters past I was asked by my pastor to join in a short play, I agreed blindly and without hesitation. I was willing to participate until it was revealed to me that I would be playing Barabus the convict. I was immediately conflicted. Though my church is mixed in diaspora, I am too aware of the narrative that’s pushed in society and became offended. As a black man I then understood fully why Sunday morning especially Easter morning is said to be the most racially divided hours in America. I prose the rhetorical question: Would a person of Jewish descent ever agree to play Hitler? Why is Revelation 1:15 ignored. My pastor then ask why does color matter? I advised it doesn’t matter but at least we can be historically accurate…He then says to me ; well look at the color of the current people of Israel. I tell him they are Jews they practice Judaism not Christianity, they occupy the land and are kin to the same pharisees that crucified Jesus. Knowing the earliest Bible to be from Ethiopia where the people a darker….. I mean I’ve been left with deeply contemplative thoughts and feelings. In short I advised my pastor that color matters because if the jewels up the crown were known to be of my likeness then maybe me and my people would be less persecuted in this land. Knowing religion has been used to support White “Nationalism”, knowing the land is drenched in the blood and tears of my people as a result. I am left to ponder on …. I am your Aunt Linnie’s oldest grandson.
