ESPN's Pete Thamel is reporting that Jackson State Coach Deion "Primetime" Sanders, 26-5 over three seasons, will be named the head coach at the University of Colorado this weekend after the Tigers' SWAC Championship battle with the Southern University Jaguars.
I’m in the “Prime’s work at JSU, with SWAC and HBCUs isn’t done” camp. Leave sure, but not now and not for Boulder… Welp, he accepted and I hope he gets them the championship they want, soon. PWI’s don’t mind when white coaches are mediocre…..
What made Coach Deion special is what he is doing for JSU and HBCU sports, besides the goal he set out to accomplish, getting black talent from HBCUs as first drafts to the NFL has not yet materialized. He CAN’T leave!
1 - No one can dictate HIS career path for HIM no more than anyone can dictate ours.
2 - Fans created the culture of Win Now or Leave and we [HBCUs] embraced it at the same time while demanding a coach's loyalty to us. We are so quick to yell "fire him" after 1 year.
3 - Likewise, just as AD Ashley Robinson, a MVSU alumnus, gave Prime an opportunity, SWAC Commissioner McClelland gave Cynthia Cooper the same opportunity at PVAMU. She left USC without a degree. She came to PVAMU, coached while earning her degree there. She is an alumna just as Mel Gray, Detroit Lions is an alumnus who earned his degree from PVAMU a few years ago.
I was recently appointed by President Simmons to be the next Director of Alumni Affairs. Prime should be on Talledega's alumnus engagement list just as Coop and Gray will be on mine.
4 - Loyalty - we demand loyalty from our coaches but our consistency in giving back isn't as loyal.
all of this just causes an entire generation of kids to not understand what loyalty is or being committed. But that is another subject for another time. What I don't like is news being leaked before this man has to coach these kids at JSU for a game now this is all anyone is going to be talking about. I feel like none of it should be discussed until after the coach's current season is over. Just my two dimes and a nickel.
He has the right to make a change in his career. The kids have a right, now with the transfer portal, to change their mind about playing for a school. ALL OF THIS

Everything that I've said and then some...

As a Coloradan, I am so curious as to how this shakes out! Best to them all. May it be a win-win!
