Trying to explain to someone that not all Palestinians are Hamas, this past weekend, was like getting "others" to understand that not all black men are killers & drug dealers. And asking "others" how they are "so in love" with Israelis and agree with the US stance, but love and support hate groups who despise Jews...made me tired.
It is tiring, indeed. Folks should be able to understand those nuances, that not all Jews support what the Israeli military is doing, and not all Palestinians support attacks on Israeli citizens. But folks are limited by their biases, sadly.
Brother Chuck, how or should, African Americans weigh in on this subject? I personally feel I must be quiet on it just because these people have been fighting forever. But I have an Uncle who in his exhortation two weeks ago said to our congregation that based on what the bible says, we all should side with Israel, because they are the chose people. Now, almost everyone said Amen but I was looking crazy in the face because I had just re-read your article I believe from 2018 and took the time to look at maps of that region going back many, many, many, many (in my Beast Mode voice) and realized that the country of Israel was not the same size back then as it is shown now. So of course after service, before dinner at "the Big House," he asked me how I felt about that he said. And I said well, my understanding is that the true chosen people are Israelites that look like us not the ones that we see on the news. After a couple of exchanges, my aunt interrupted and said it was time to eat. I sat on the back porch with the kids after that.
It's a tough one. For real. Because so many people mix the religious with the political on this topic. Whenever religion comes in, folks tend to lose all objectivity. Which is sad because that prevents the dialogue necessary to grow in this subject.
