Great Job to Will Packer! The Oscars was actually keeping my attention (and keeping me awake - I was in the same boat in years past, Brother Chuck). I despise the fact that Mr. Packer's work was overshadowed by this display of B.O.B. Crime "in front of them folk." I guess will never had that conversation with his mom about keeping himself in line in front of the Europeans aka Colonizers, aka pinkies...again, I celebrate WILL PACKER! Not talking about the bad behavior on stage - we have to learn to do like they do (pretend it did not happen - we did not see it - we don' know what the fuss is about). #CelebratingWillPacker #Oscars2022
Well said...and I agree. The sad thing for me is that I remember the slap and not the awarding of the Oscar for his (Will Smith's) performance. Will's behavior overshadowed all of the awardees (and the mood) for the remainder of the evening.
Very impressed with such a substantive piece in such a quick turnaround. You've indoctrinated me because one of my first thoughts after reading and seeing the event was, "I wonder what ol Hobbs is going to write on this?!" 😉 I have quite the opposite view. I am more impressed with Chris Rock and not blowing this up. His handling of the situation is the real story. He used words. Will Smith used his hands. This is an entertainment venue that is meant to adore and love itself. It really means nothing. These are actors and entertainers. What disappoints me is we can no longer expect adults to act like adults. While other nations burn and wives and husbands never come home from the front line, we are so emotionally fragile that a leading man of our generation can't keep his shit together over words. Kids from Baltimore to Detroit to Miami will see this as another instance of violence being the answer. It's much easier to throw down, Trump-style, than to THINK. How much more, how bigger of a man he would have been to get his best actor award and then use his 60 seconds to talk about hateful words. Instead, we get apologists that kids will read and remain confused on how to adult. I do want you for my lawyer if I ever do something stupid like this.
The interesting part is that Ted Cruz was criticized (and rightly so) for his failure to defend his wife against 45's remarks. Regardless of Will's and Jada's relationship, he had no choice but to defend her!

Excellent observation that Smith may be struggling with a lot and need help. Thank you for all the well made points. Keep Musing!
Very salient points made in your posting and at the same time we should adhere to the higher standard of dignity by all of us!
Well stated. I concur that there is a time/place for everything.
Will Packer did a superlative job and should win an Emmy for it. Gorgeous show.
