As someone who fluidly moves between many different spaces, I so appreciate this opinion piece. Ultimately, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a job nor a school (not our complexion) define us and none of the above is a good barometer or definition of a sellout. I like the one you use.
My personal animus towards Deion Sanders is strictly UF versus FSU-based. With the singular exception of the almost-saintly Warrick Dunn, I just can’t root for football players from Half Assed U, Florida’s Second Rate University…!
Bravo!!! Encore!!!! We need more dialogue such as you have presented here. Let's stop pitting ourselves against one another (HBCU vs PWI alumni), especially with the knowledge that Black and Brown faces in PW spaces are often the diversity so needed to disrupt the "perceived comfort" of modern segregation. Much appreciation and kudos to the many Black and Brown folks who courageously disrupted the comfort and paved the way for our participation in PWIs at all levels - from well-known Ruby Bridges to little-known W. Allison Davis, PhD, the first African American professor to earn tenure at a predominantly white institution in the US; from Jackie Robinson to Ernie Davis; from VP Kamala Harris to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and beyond...
Well said once again! If Coach Prime is anything, he is someone who will kick open the door for others. Let’s not forget that is has been in our lifetime that blacks didn’t have the “ability” to be quarterbacks and coaches! So for anyone to call him a sellout for trying to continue to prove others wrong (and doing a stellar job of it) is just insulting to the man! He is doing FAR more than ACTUAL sellouts like hypocrite Clarence Thomas, opportunist Tim Scott, and talentless Candace Owens!
🫶🏾🫶🏾 "But as a man who is also a Christian, I understood (and still understand) that our callings often change"... that for me said everything!!
Thank you... simply THANK YOU!!
Thank you Lisa with an A!

I am not surprised that we see this one alike, we are Twin Kin, after all!
Chuck, well said, and I agree.

You mentioned key points when you said they advocate for the advancement of African Americans.......real sellouts do not do this......
