Lest you think I'm a new-comer to Hobbservation Point, let me point out that retirement is not the life of nothing to do as I had imagined. I JUST read this column today; and yes, I was surprised to find that you had identified as a Republican. Learning so, however, makes me feel a tiny bit less guilty about my longtime mostly Republican voting record with a few crossover votes for some Democrats. Thank the good lord for Barack Obama, who began my separation from the GOP. When Donald Trump came to the political forefront as a contender fro the Presidency in 2015, I was retired from the almost 24-7 life of a school teacher and had more time to engage in politics. Previously, I had lazily described myself as a fiscal Republican but a social Democrat. Ha! Again, I proved to be the lazy voter with that cop-out! I have that disgusting Donald Trump to thank for my divorce from the Republican Party! At age 77, I am happy now to say I'm basically the same person I've always been--a caring, loving liberal at heart but now one with votes to back up who I really am! I feel such an affinity to Ole Hobbs because he came of age with my "son" Ayinde.

I once again wish you had the opportunity to talk with my father, another moderate black Republican who always said he did not leave the party, the party left him. He felt he could make a change from within, and the frustration at the changes and resistance make him shift. He was also a proud voter for Obama, Hillary and many local Democratic politician. Keep moving Chuck.
